Aujourd’hui ce sont deux verbes: allumer et éteindre (to switch on and to switch off) .

Exemple 1: Il a laissé toutes les lumières allumées. He left all the lights on. 

Exemple 2: Ils n’éteignent jamais leurs téléphones portables. They never switch their mobile phones off. 

Exemple 3: Elle a allumé puis éteint la télé. She turned the TV on and off.
