Nous commençons la semaine il n’y a pas un chat (there’s no-one around, there’s not a soul around).

Exemple 1: Je pensais qu’il y aurait beaucoup de monde mais en fait, il n’y avait pas un chat. I thought it would be very busy but actually there wasn’t anyone around. 

Exemple 2: Il fait encore nuit et il n’y a pas un chat. It’s still dark and there’s not a soul around.
